Camel near Fooga
The Dromedaries (they don’t seem to mind if you call them camels) used during the trek are all males and have distinct personalities. Strangely though in Saudi and Oman they only use females. As part of the Camelia family they are related to Giraffes in Africa and Lama’s, and Guanaco’s in South America, all possessing pre-hensile tongues and top lips.
Being ruminants, there is a considerable amount of chewing done all night and it can get rather windy.
They are able to carry a staggering 250 kilos on the flat and 100 Kilos on uneven ground, go without water for 7 days. They will carry the majority of your personal gear, leaving you to carry a day sack with essentials for the day.
"A very experienced leader who has an understanding of the environment he works in".
