Wadi Rum
Jordan has seen numerous civilizations during its history, Canaanites, Edomites, Moabites and the Nabataean civilization, which left its indelible remains at Petra.
Wadi Rum in south Jordan is a protected area of dramatic desert wilderness consisting of huge sheer sided mountains of sandstone and granite and reach heights of 1700 meters and more. T.E. Lawrence’s book 'The Seven Pillars of Wisdom', was apparently inspired by one of Rum's imposing mountains.
With Lawrence the Bedu here gained notoriety during the First World War when they joined the Arab revolt forces under the leadership of King Faisal and fought against the Turks and the Ottoman Empire – most famously capturing Aqaba after a forced march through the Nefud desert of the Rub al-Kali.
The Bedu of the Howitat tribe are our hosts during our time in Jordan.
"It was certainly one of the most enjoyable and best organised trips I've been on and look forward to many more".
